PACKING LIST

The following list is based solely on the recommendations of former students in semester-long study abroad programs.  Use this list as a guide, keeping in mind that the best way to pack is lightly.

NEPAL

You should assess your personal needs, look at the climate in Nepal, and imagine the things that you will be doing over the course of your stay then make your own packing list.  Again many of the items on the list are available in Nepal.  Quality and knock-off sporting goods are available in Thamel, Kathmandu.

INDIA

It is very difficult to prepare a packing list for someone else.  You should assess your personal needs, look at the climate in Jaipur, imagine the things that you will be doing over the course of your stay, and then make your own packing list.  Again many of the items on the list are available in Jaipur.  Quality and knock-off sporting goods are available locally.  Hand-made/knitted clothing is available and inexpensive.  T-shirts and women’s skirts are also available.

Bring clothing that you don’t mind giving, lots of wear to – stuff you may even want to give away at the end of your stay.  Please avoid bringing clothes with decorative-type holes in them.  As a foreigner, it is not culturally sensitive to wear ragged clothes in Jaipur.  To Indians, you are considered well-to-do, and thus dressing like a beggar is interpreted as an insult to your parents.
